In 1933 Herbert Ryan along with his brother, Gus, and Herb's son, Alan, set up R&R with the help
of an old friend, Leo Robins, hence the name R&R. The first garments were cleaned and pressed
in the shop window on the corner of Montague and Auburn Street's in Goulburn. To clean a suit
cost four and sixpence. In 1942, Alan set up another R&R in Monaro Street, Queanbeyan.
In 1954, Herbert Ryan died and Alan brought four of his sons into the rapidly expanding business
— Peter, Gary, Brendan and Lynton. Peter Ryan took the business from a larger, extended family
concern to a more immediate family business when he opened Canberra Dry Cleaners
at Cooleman Court, Weston in 1985. In 1991, his son, Mark Ryan, opened another branch
at Southlands, Mawson.
R&R is one of the oldest and respected names in the dry cleaning industry and continues
today with a fresh new look. |
